10 TIPS WHAT TO WEAR for Your Fall Family Photos

There is a chill in the air and I felt the need to cozy up in a sweatshirt before I left the house today. Fall is here! Time for outdoor Fall portrait sessions. Bring on the boots, sweaters, jackets, and layers. I always get asked "what should we wear?".  I know it seems daunting to coordinate outfits for your entire family. However, you don't need to stress.   Take a look at some of our Fall Wardrobe Tips and ideas below. You can use these to think about how to style your own family.

As always, the studio is happy to help with coordinating outfits!

1. Start with one outfit that you really like. Maybe Mom has a killer pair of boots and sweater she wants to wear.  Go with it! From there, build around it so colors coordinate but don't match exactly.

2. Add a pop of color. Some of our favorite accent colors for the Fall are deep purple, yellow, burn orange, red, and navy blue. Pair the color with neutrals to tie it all together. You can never go wrong with neutrals too.

3. Stay away from wearing a lot of green. When having photos taken in grassy or wooded areas green is not the best choice. Avoid fluorescent/neon colors or logos on clothing that will age a portrait.

6. Layer! Layer!  Layers add dimension and depth. Don't be afraid of texture or mixing patterns. Dress for the FALL weather with layers. We never know what the weather will brings so layers keep everyone comfortable.

7. Be careful wearing white. If you have fair skin or blonde hair, white tends to wash out skin tones. White is fine as an accent color. Don’t dress everyone in white shirts.

8. Dress your kids in clothes that fit (not with room to grow). Baggy clothes dont photograph well.

9. Add accessories. A hat, vest, bowtie, or suspenders for boys are adorable. If your girl likes to dress up, find a headband, bow or hat that she might not normally wear so a few pictures are extra special.  Mom can have fun with accessories too! Accessories bring dimension to photos.

10. Don't forget about nice shoes for everyone. Neon light up muddy sneakers are not the best option :)

Remember, have fun with it! You want your family's personality to shine through.
