Maryland Newborn Professional Photographer | Before and After editing

When babies are born, they are everything! Let’s face it, as parents, there is nothing more special than our kids, and we never want to see them grow up. We want them to be our babies forever. That’s why newborn photography is one of my favorite types of sessions to photograph. I get to work with some of the best parents and sweetest babies ever. Watching the love in a mom or dad’s eyes as they look at their new child is irreplaceable to me. Capturing these moments for parents is something that is definitely worth documenting. I have spent years learning about everything that goes into newborn photography and editing is just one of those elements that goes into the art that we create for you.

A Little Support to Ensure Safety

Newborns are very dependent and fragile little things, and safety is the utmost importance. Sometimes we give a newborn’s head a little support while taking the photo, just to be extra safe. Of course their parents don’t want our hands in the photos so we use Photoshop to remove any unwanted elements. In this example, Sheri used one finger to make sure little baby boy’s head didn’t wobble. Then in Photoshop we create a little magic to carefully remove her hand from the photo and keep his adorable peach fuzz hair in place. This is great because we are still able to get those super cute portraits, and our precious little clients stay comfy and sleep soundly throughout it all. Check out the before and after photo to see for yourself what exactly it is we do. If you are interested in booking a newborn session with Danielle Sara Photography, please reach out! We would love to get to know you and your sweet baby!

Maryland First Birthday Studio Photographer | Springtime Cake Smash

“How you pull at our heart strings. As you dance and as you sing! Comfort and eternal Spring”

-Gertrude Tooley Buckingham

What a beautiful time of the year it is. Spring is definitely a favorite season. The weather is beautiful and the flowers are abundant, and everyone just seems to be in a better mood. There is no better time to take portraits of you and your loved ones. We brought the springtime inside for this sweet girl's one year old session and we loved having her visit for her birthday celebration. Babies and flowers are the best combo! It was precious to see this little one so cheerful as she was surrounded by the many colors that the season provided.

A Gorgeous Garden Party

With Mom's input, we decided on a springtime garden party theme for this cake smash at the studio. Because we want all of our sessions to be special, we customize each one with our client's color, theme, and style preference to create a custom backdrop, whether simple or with fresh flowers, such as this one. This precious girl was as cute as can be. She loved the attention she received throughout the session, and we couldn’t have asked for a more cooperative and sweet little girl to photograph. She looked adorable in her pink outfit and flower headband. All of it came together so well!

We also provide the cake for every cake smash sessions so that the whole design works together cohesively, and so you don't have to worry about one more thing!  We coordinate the cakes with the theme and colors that we design. Donuts, watermelon, and cookies are also creative ideas to smash!

Enjoy a few favorite images of this birthday girl and a short and sweet video I put together to give you a closer look at what goes on at our cake smash sessions!

Tips for Makeup Application for Professional Photo Sessions

In life, we go through many beautiful milestones that are definitely worth documenting. Having professional portraits taken is a great way to hold on to those sweet moments that you and your family share. We often forget about the planning and prep that goes into these sessions. The location, the time of year, getting the kid outfits organized, coordinating naps and food and so on... are just a few of the things we have to think about when planning a session. But one of the overlooked factors is always makeup! Makeup is important whether you are already a busy mom or expecting a baby on the way. Making a little time to prepare makeup application for a professional photography session, so it’s not an afterthought that you are rushing to do while running out the door, is so worth it!

The Difference of a Professional Experience

We want you to have a great experience, feel terrific and look fantastic. It is so helpful to have professional makeup done. Not only does it make your beautful features stand out, but it boosts your confidence. When you feel good about yourself, it shows in your images!!   However, if you aren't able to get your makeup done professionally, here are some tips from Liliana Luna, a professional makeup artist whom we have worked with for clients, so you can create a camera ready look all on your own.

1. Apply your makeup in natural window light if at all possible. Good lighting is essential to a good, even application of makeup.
2. Start with a clean face. Don’t forget to use moisturizer lotion and eye cream
3. Foundation should exactly match your skin tone and bring it down to the neck to match face and body. Use a brush for even application – not your hands.
4. Use a skin tone shade of powder, not translucent powder or mineral makeup. But don’t over do it, as you want to look naturally beautiful.
5.      Play up your eyes! Avoid black eyeliner instead use brown to get a more natural look. And don’t go too heavy on the eyes it will make eyes look smaller.
6.      Don’t forget mascara! I suggest waterproof (aka sweatproof) black mascara. Two coats.
7.      Remember your eye brows. Use a light brown gel to keep eyebrows in place. It’s a small detail that makes a huge difference.
8.      Match lipliner with lipstick and choose a color that enhances your existing lip tone. Lip gloss is great to bring with you for touch ups.
9.       When selecting a blush color, choose a shade that resembles the flush you have after exercise or laughter.  When applied correctly it enhances your look. Blush needs to be applied a bit heavier than normal for portraits because the camera has a tendency to wash out the color.

Liliana is a professional makeup artist we work with for our family and maternity sessions. Makeup can always be arranged by Danielle Sara Photography for your session. She works on-site and can come to your house to prep you for your session!

Maryland Newborn Studio Photographer | Spring Baby

This sweet girl's newborn session was beautiful.  But first, I had the honor of capturing mom’s maternity portraits a few weeks prior to baby's arrival.  The soft pinks and flowing gown, borrowed from our studio for the session, were gorgeous ways to represent the upcoming arrival of their little girl with a whimsical feminine feel.  Every expecting mama should be made to feel as beautiful as she looks.  Here are a few of my favorites of this gorgeous mama in the gown but keep reading to see more from her baby girl's Maryland newborn session!

Welcome to the World Sweet Girl

This little newborn is an absolute princess. We kept with a pink and girly theme when customizing her newborn session, incorporating the same soft colors and feminine feel to the images from her maternity session. With her making her grand debut in Spring, we wanted to represent this in her images somehow. I hand painted the perfect backdrop for just this moment!  I was so excited to use the cherry blossom backdrop for a newborn session.  Painting my own backgrounds for sessions brings such a personal and unique element to the portraits, and this hand painted backdrop was perfect for what we were trying to achieve.

This cutie was picture perfect throughout her session, and was born camera ready. She slept for a portion of her session, but she also gave us some very awake and alert moments. She was more than happy to show of those big beautiful eyes.  When posing with mommy and daddy she gave us a giant smile, score! It was such a sweet moment to capture for this beautiful couple and their sweet growing family.

Maryland Newborn Photographer | Sweet Baby Boy

Oh, how I love little newborns! Their cute features and the love that fills the studio when a precious new baby comes in is something that I absolutely love about my job. Documenting such a life changing and beautiful moment is amazing and I'm so honored to provide these precious memories to my clients.

Sweet Sibling Love

Not too long ago, I photographed big sister's newborn session for the P family - and now it was new baby boy's turn! The first time working with this sweet family was wonderful and I was super excited to work with them again for baby brother. We decided on a classic newborn boy session, with neutral colors of whites and blues and simple backgrounds. This little guy was as cute as a button! He had the sweetest little facial expressions.  He slept nearly the entire time, and was super cooperative. His older sister was as sweet as can be. She enjoyed her little brother and was so gentle when she snuggled with him.  Mom wanted a few similar set-ups that we did for her daughter and we were able to create this for her.  We captured an awake portrait that was especially similar to his sister at the same age...it's amazing to see the similarities!

We created two beautiful artwork canvasses from the session to go with the ones they have from their daughter's session. This four canvas arrangement will be the perfect pieces to adorn this family’s new home. They have so many blessings, and what better way to show them off than to have them on display!

New Studio Additions

How adorable does he look in the blue romper?  This is one of our new outfits for clients to use at the studio.  These outfits are hand selected, hand made by small businesses, and look beyond precious in portraits. We have a few new additions in newborn through one year old size and styles to make life a little easier when you come for your session!
