How To Choose The Perfect Color Scheme For Your Newborn Photos | Maryland Newborn Photographer

Welcoming your new baby into the world is one of the most meaningful moments you’ll ever experience and capturing those first few weeks through photography gives you a way to relive that joy forever. One of the most important elements of a successful newborn session? The color palette.

At Danielle Sara Photography, I take a thoughtful, collaborative approach to styling your session. Together, we’ll create images that not only highlight the beauty of your baby but also feel natural and cohesive with your family’s style and home. If you're unsure where to start, here are some simple ways to help guide your color choices and get inspired. And if you still feel lost, don’t worry, I’ve got you and will take care of it all!

Think About Where You’ll Display Your Photos

Before your session, consider where you plan to hang or display your images. Is your nursery decorated in soft sage and cream? Is your living room bright and airy with whites and neutrals? Choosing colors that coordinate with your home ensures your images feel cohesive and timeless in your space.

Nursery-Inspired Colors
If you’ve already poured love into designing a nursery, we can take cues directly from that space whether it's gentle pastels, earthy tones, or modern monochrome. Your baby’s photos will feel like a natural extension of the room that already holds so much meaning.

Living Space Colors

Consider family portraits from your newborn session with colors that accent your living space.

Play Room Colors

Planning around your play room often gives you a great opportunity to play with colors and fun props

Neutrals Never Go Out of Style

My personal style has lots of neutrals and whites they photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your baby’s delicate features. Cream, ivory, beige, gray, and muted earth tones create a serene, classic look you’ll love forever. This is one of my personal favorites!

But Don’t Be Afraid of Color

I am absolutely not afraid of color and love bringing your vision to life. Soft pastels like blush, lavender, and baby blue, while jewel tones like emerald, mustard, or deep burgundy make a bold and stunning statement. We can incorporate color in wraps, headbands, bonnets, or layered textures to add depth and dimension to your images. Neutral with a ‘pop’ of color is a great way to incorporate color without over saturating the image.

Seasonal Inspiration

Consider the season your baby is born. Spring florals, summer peaches, autumnal rusts, or cozy winter whites can guide your palette in a natural and meaningful way.

Maternity Photos:

If we have had maternity photos together, I can help guide your newborn session using the same color story. This makes for gorgeous, impactful gallery walls, books, and more.

Color Trends:

I always love to go onto https://www.pantone.com to determine the color of the year, and seasonal trends in color.

Let Me Guide You

If you feel overwhelmed by options, I will guide you every step of the way. I’ll ask about your favorite colors, your home decor, and the overall feeling you want from your photos. Together, we will create a cohesive, beautiful session that feels true to you.

Don’t hesitate to inquire about specific colors or ideas you love. I’m here to bring your vision to life and ensure your newborn photos are everything you’ve dreamed of. If you want to book a session, contact me!
