Maryland Newborn and Sibling Photographer | A fox theme for baby boy

The arrival of a second child is so different than the arrival of a first. Of course, both are equally special times for a family—neither is better than the other. But with the first child, everything feels so new. Brand-new parents take their first steps into completely uncharted territory. With the newness comes excitement, exhaustion, and honestly a little fear. But the deep, unconditional love they experience is unlike anything they’ve ever felt before. I love watching first-time parents. They aren’t quite sure if they’re holding baby right, and they’re still learning how to discern those confusing newborn cries and noises. They’re so sweet to watch on my side of the lens.

A Peace that comes from Experience

With the second child, there’s a little more peace and assurance that comes from experience. As parents, we think, “We’ve done this before, so we know that we can do it!” With the second child, there’s also the joy of watching the other sibling meet their best friend for life for the very first time. These parents are no less tired—more kiddos usually equal less sleep—but they aren’t quite as nervous letting someone else swaddle, rock or change a diaper :)

It’s such a joy for me to watch all of these families and capture those memories for them—no matter what stage of life they’re in!

For this session, big sister was so happy to cuddle up to her brand-new little brother and keep him warm and cozy on our white faux-fur blanket. His parents had a special fox theme in mind and we had fun dressing him up in cute little hats and posing him with his little fox friend. The Devoted Knits fox set was perfect! His tiny fingers look so cute holding onto Mr. Fox! I also love incorporating simplicity into newborn portraits. They’re so versatile and classic, perfect for warming up and bringing love into any space in the house!

What To Wear Tips for Fall Outdoor Portrait Sessions

The wind is chilly and the days are getting shorter! Time for 2017 outdoor Fall portrait sessions. Bring on the leaves and boots. I always get asked “what should we wear?”.  I know it seems daunting to coordinate outfits for your entire family. However, you don’t need to stress.   Take a look at some of our Fall wardrobe tips and ideas below. You can use these to think about how to style your own family.

Top Tips for What to Wear for Outdoor Fall Sessions:

  1. Start with one outfit that you really like. Maybe Mom has a killer pair of boots and dress she wants to wear.  Go with it! From there, build around it so colors coordinate but don’t match exactly.
  2. Add a pop of color. Some of our favorite accent colors for the Fall are navy blue, eggplant purple, olive, red and yellow. Pair the color with neutrals to tie it all together.
  3. Stay away from wearing a lot of green when having photos taken in grassy or wooded areas. Avoid fluorescent colors or logos on clothing that will age a portrait.
  4. Layer! Layers add dimension and depth. Don’t be afraid of texture or mixing patterns. If it’s chilly, bring a sweater. Or maybe layer on a necklace overtop a dress.
  5. Be careful wearing white. If you have fair skin or blonde hair, white tends to wash out skin tones. White is fine as an accent color.
  6. Dress your kids in clothes that fit perfectly, not with room to grow.
  7. Add accessories. A hat, vest, or suspenders for boys are adorable. If your girl likes to dress up, find a headband, bow or hat that she might not normally wear so a few pictures are extra special.  Mom can have fun with accessories too!
  8. Don’t forget about nice shoes for everyone.

Remember, have fun with it! You want your family’s personality to shine through.

Baby Boy Studio Newborn Photography

Watching families grow is one of the best parts of my job. I photographed this beautiful family for big brother's newborn session a few years ago. It was great to see him again, now as a toddler! He was super sweet during his baby brother's studio newborn photography session. Look at those matching faces! I love the one of Dad with his boys and all the precious portraits we captured to decorate this family's home.
