Hand-painted Photography Backdrop for Portrait Sessions at Danielle Sara Photography

Here are the final results of my very first hand-painted photography backdrop in action!

I do not consider myself someone who can paint or draw (stick figures are my go-to!). But painting is something I have been wanting to try as a different creative outlet.  With a little encouragement, tips, and inspiration from fellow photographer friends, I gave this a shot. I stepped outside of my comfort zone and took a risk knowing it could end up a complete disaster. I’m pretty happy with the results, even if it’s not perfect, definitely not straight, a lot of paint was wasted, and my 20 month old daughter was not a very cooperative model!  Maybe I’ll even paint another one 🙂

This backdrop will be available to use with all future sessions at the studio and will definitely be making an appearance again during Cherry Blossom season next Spring!

Fashion Cake Smash Photography Session

I’m so excited to share this fashion cake smash photography session! This was my first time creating a hand-drawn custom backdrop. I love the way it turned out!  I don't consider myself an artist when it comes to drawing, so creating this from scratch was stepping outside of my comfort zone.  I would love to do more backgrounds like this for my clients to make them truly one of a kind.  The subtle fashion sketches in the background were the perfect complement to this beautiful girl in her stylish dress! The cake was delicious, her outfit was adorable, and the whole outcome of this fashion cake smash theme cohesively came together. Cake smash sessions can have themes or be simple. We collaborate with our clients to make them anything you want them to be!

We always start with pre-cake portraits. These can be in your favorite outfit for baby or something extra special. For this session, Mom brought a few favorite books to capture her first birthday milestone portraits. This sweet girl was all smiles when we turned on the music. Her grin and dancing were so cute!!

Milestones are so important to capture and look back on with your little ones in the future. We love canvasses, framed photos or albums for one year session keepsakes to show off this once in a lifetime occasion.

Cake provided by Sweet DC.  Dresses from Little Trendsetter.

Newborn Baby Girl Session in Rockville, MD

Baby Anna slept so soundly for her first baby portraits.  It was unseasonably warm for her session in February so we had to include a little bit of Spring with a pink backdrop. It was a beautiful set up and fit perfectly with the rest of her sweet and simple images.  She is such a gorgeous little girl!

Favorite Newborn Poses from our Rockville Studio Sessions

When you bring a new baby into your family, it is a time of emotion and pure love. It is a time that should be documented! We have photographed a lot of newborn babies over the past 6 years and have learned that every baby is unique.  Each baby has a different temperament and personality. With each session, we aim to document a mix of genuinely candid moments as well as delicately posed images. We pay close attention to the differences and details of each baby to create beautiful portraits for your family.  Here are a few of Danielle's favorite newborn poses!

  1. Chin on Hands: I love this pose! If I had to pick just one image to capture during each session, this would be it.  I love how this pose allows you to see all the features of baby's face. Not to mention, those adorable cheeks!favoritenewbornpose

2. Awake baby:  While I absolutely love photographing a sleeping baby, I equally enjoy capturing a newborn who is wide awake. Sometimes it is difficult because newborn babies eyes do not focus yet. Their eyes tend to cross or look in different directions.  When I capture a newborn awake making eye contact with me, I can always see a tiny glimpse into their future personality.

3. Baby on Belly: This is another favorite that I try to capture at every session. There is something so innocent and pure about a baby all curled up sleeping on their belly.

4.  On Back with Blanket:  I usually follow the lead of baby when they are on their back covered with a blanket.  Some babies like their hands up by their face, some like them down, or some prefer one hand up and one down! As long as they are comfortable and cozy, I let them fall into a natural place of comfort.  This is usually a time when I can capture a big yawn or a stretch!

Danielle enjoys spending time with each of her newborn photography clients and forming lasting relationships. She looks forward to transforming this special time into portraits to be treasured for years to come. If you are expecting a baby soon, have a professional newborn photographer photograph your baby. There is nothing more beautiful and sweet than newborns.  To see more of Danielle’s newborn photography images, please visit the Gallery or the Facebook page. Contact the studio to schedule your session or receive more information. We look forward to meeting you!

A Newborn Boy Photography Session {Rockville, MD}

We loved meeting this family for their newborn boy photography session at the studio to capture their little boy, Teddy.  Mom and Dad brought several personal things that we were able to incorporate into the images; a blanket, Dad's uniform, and the most adorable "teddy" bears!  This little guy was a very sleepy baby for his newborn boy photography session, which we always appreciate.  We used a few of their favorite images to design a beautiful, customized birth announcement for their family to share as well.  Enjoy some of our favorite images! military uniform newborn boycuddled newbornbaby boy with his teddy bearsbaby boy photography on gray blanketparent studio newborn photographyawake baby boy daniellesaraphotographysmashcake_0025
