Maryland Photography Studio Before and After

I thought I’d share a fun little before and after today! A lot of work goes into creating the final images from each newborn session at our Maryland photography studio.

Bring me all the babies to snuggle!! But I also love the behind the scenes work when I sit at my computer and get to bring my creative vision to life.  Some babies have perfect porcelain skin and some do not.  The hormones, labor process, and overall sensitivity to a new environment make every baby’s skin react differently. Either way is ok and it eventually goes away!  My goal is to create a final image so that your baby looks just as you see them.  I try very hard not to over edit natural skin tones, birth marks, and any areas that would take away from the natural beauty of your baby.

We also take the utmost care with your baby during their newborn session when it comes to safety.  A baby that is one or two weeks old does not have the strength to hold up their own head. Sarah assists at newborn sessions to help with safety and posing so you can relax and enjoy your time at the studio. Editing out a spotter’s hand is part of the work that goes into turing your images into artwork and beautiful memories to look back on and enjoy.

Much love and attention to detail goes into your newborn session with me, from first inquiry through final delivery.

This adorable guy had some pretty bad baby acne when I saw him. Funny thing is, when he came back two weeks later to view his images, his skin was perfect! And this is how I want his parents to remember him 🙂

If you are interested in a newborn session at our Maryland photography studio, please get in touch! We would love to hear from you!

This baby girl was so precious for her Maryland studio photography session with her family.  I photographed her big brother as a newborn, through his first year, and with Mom's recent maternity session for baby girl as well. It was so special to see him now as a big brother!  It's always an honor to watch families grow and capture their milestone moments in life. My job is to help you look at these pictures and feel like you’re back in that moment in time.   This beautiful portrait session features muted tones and my favorite soft colors. I especially love the newborn portraits with pink flowers for this Springtime baby girl.  Enjoy a few of my favorites from this sweet session. Scroll to the end to see some of the beautiful artwork they will display in their home!

Tips for a Maternity Session

A maternity session is a celebration of your baby bump and an exciting time of anticipation.  It happens once or twice (maybe a few more!) times in your life. Document and celebrate it!  We love creating portraits of your pregnancy to help you feel beautiful and remember this special time. But more importantly, we want to create images that your children will look back on and treasure. We put together a few maternity session tips to think about preparing for a successful session.  Hope it helps!

Plan Ahead/Timing. Maternity sessions should take place somewhere between 32-36 weeks. Typically the beginning of the third trimester is best. This way you have a little time to reschedule due to weather or sickness.  It's also the point when the belly is showing nicely but you haven't quite hit the super uncomfortable stage :) Of course with multiples or other complications adjustments for earlier sessions should be made. We've had a handful of maternity sessions that never happened because the baby arrived early! Don't wait until the last minute to book your session. maternitysessiontips

Think about Style. Choose a photographer who has a portfolio that you love. Pick maternity images that match your style. Do you prefer artsy studio, lifestyle outdoors, traditional or more fine art?  We offer both in studio and outdoor sessions and give our clients the option. While they are both beautiful, they are different, so picking the one that fits your style is something to consider.

Session prep. Your photographer should prepare you with all the information that you need.  What to wear? What to bring? At Danielle Sara Photography we always send a comprehensive prep-guide with tips and advice for your session.  This is especially helpful if it's your first baby and you've never done this before!

Clothing.  Clothing for maternity sessions should be tight-fitting around the belly. Loose and baggy shirts will only hide that adorable belly we are trying to show off!  Keep clothing selections simple.  Think about adding a pop of color with jewelry or layers. Our studio also has unique maternity gowns available for our clients who want something a little extra special.  Opting for a few images with a bare belly or flattering lingerie is always timeless and a beautiful.

Hair and Makeup.  We recommend wearing more makeup than you usually do but keeping it true to yourself.  Having your makeup and/or hair done by a professional is always a good idea! We are happy to make recommendations for some of our trusted professionals.

Relax. It's natural to tense up when being photographed. If  you feel awkward or uncomfortable, stop and take break to breathe and feel your baby moving around inside your belly.  Feeling comfortable and connected to your baby and your spouse will always lead to more flattering images overall. It will show in your face and body language and create more natural, beautiful images.  daniellesaraphotographysmashcake_0040

Have fun with it!  Incorporating sentimental items or family heirlooms is wonderful! We love to use these items in the upcoming newborn session and future baby sessions to show the progression.  Or use your session as a chance to create a "Big Reveal" for your friends and family. We love working with our clients to create truly special images!

Regardless of how tired, "big", and uncomfortable you are, trust that your photographer will make you feel and look absolutely glowing!  You will never regret hiring a professional to capture this memorable time for your family!

Top 10 'What to Wear' Tips for Outdoor Fall Portrait Sessions

There is a chill in the air and I felt the need to cozy up in a sweatshirt before I left the house today. Fall is coming! Time for outdoor fall portrait sessions. Bring on the boots, sweaters, jackets, and layers. I always get asked "what should we wear?".  I know it seems daunting to coordinate outfits for your entire family. However, you don't need to stress.   Take a look at some of our Fall wardrobe tips and ideas below. You can use these to think about how to style your own family. Top 10 Tips for Outdoor Fall Sessions:

1. Start with one outfit that you really like. Maybe Mom has a killer pair of boots and sweater she wants to wear.  Go with it! From there, build around it so colors coordinate but don't match exactly.

2. Add a pop of color. Some of our favorite accent colors for the Fall are deep purple, yellow, burn orange, red, and navy blue. Pair the color with neutrals to tie it all together.

3. Stay away from wearing a lot of green when having photos taken in grassy or wooded areas. Avoid fluorescent colors or logos on clothing that will age a portrait.

6. Layer! Layer!  Layers add dimension and depth. Don't be afraid of texture or mixing patterns. Dress for the weather with layers.

7. Be careful wearing white. If you have fair skin or blonde hair, white tends to wash out skin tones. White is fine as an accent color.

8. Dress your kids in clothes that fit perfectly, not with room to grow.

9. Add accessories. A hat, vest, or suspenders for boys are adorable. If your girl likes to dress up, find a headband, bow or hat that she might not normally wear so a few pictures are extra special.  Mom can have fun with accessories too!

10. Don't forget about nice shoes for everyone.

Remember, have fun with it! You want your family's personality to shine through.
